Happy Holidays, Cool People!
2019 has been a busy year for FFCP, and we’re looking at much more in 2020!
December Updates
Eli completed his applications for the concurrent graduate degree program at UCLA for their Master’s in Public Policy and Public Health. He also completed the GRE, scoring very well in the written and verbal portions and a serviceable score in the quantitative portion. With the applications submitted and all the testing done, Eli is now waiting for the results, which will come in by April at the absolute latest.
As part of the resources the Public Policy department makes available to the students, Eli was able to attend a webinar from Associate Professor Chris Zepeda-Millán. Professor Zepeda-Millán teaches in both public policy and Chicana/o studies at UCLA. His webinar was on the current administration’s immigration policy, the need for immigration reform, as well as reform for immigrant labor rights. He made a very compelling case for studying immigration policy at UCLA, given the faculty projects at the campus and large, diverse economy fueled by immigrant labor. Eli will be contacting him in the beginning of the winter quarter to discuss research interests and get guidance in the field.
Other than that, Reese received some equipment, and passed some along for R&D!
Looking Back on 2019
This year has been great for Fitness For Cool People. It may just be easier to list everything we did that wasn’t mentioned already in this post:
We shifted the focus from sedentary gamer population to people of all ages and backgrounds, as well as some additional specificity for athletes. Eli has been working with a large amount of wiser (geriatric) clients, helping them improve their general fitness, rehabilitate injuries and conditions, and reverse many of comorbidities that come from the aging process, including sarcopenia, frailness, mobility loss, poor balance, and slow reaction time. He has been able to help prevent, manage, or reverse health issues related to obesity and poor diet such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and high blood triglycerides.
Reese did a full aesthetic and formatting overhaul for web and print assets, to solidify the look and colors across the board. The cards have had a few upgrades, and two sets of shirts have been made so far. Look out for more in 2020!
We’ve partnered with the amazing and talented Kiba Kong, acro-bboy extraordinaire for events and other FFCP activities, such as helping promote GoMotionPro by demoing their namesake wireless non-optical motion capture tracking system at Siggraph 2019 in Los Angeles. You can see Kiba’s final performance at Siggraph in our Media Gallery page, with Eli off-camera working the portable PA system!
Reese constructed an EL Wire lightsuit, and deployed it at TwitchCon 2019–we even have a video in the gallery to show it off! While it was successful to an extent, the limitation of EL Wire’s durability became obvious, and will be replaced with side glow fiber optics going forward. EL wire is better for hard surfaces, so it will be used for props or ambiance lighting. More gloves, glasses, and other attire has also been purchased, and three Critter RGB units will be arriving mid-2020!
Let’s have a stronger year in 2020!
