Greetings Cool People!
We hope you had success fighting off the Ghrelin Gremlin in the face of holiday eating! Remember, just because you had a couple off-days doesn’t mean a caloric-restriction diet has been ruined, just pick up where you left off and the extra 3-5lbs will quickly drop off. You can use this as practice to prepare for round 2 late in December!
Lightsuit Update
Lightsuit production has been in R&D this month! Red wrap-around cyberpunk glasses, red LED “laser” gloves, 50 feet of 3mm (4.5mm with clear sheathing) solid core side glow fiber optic cable, and a 5 watt red LED kit that ought to run for 12 hours on a full set of AA batteries, have been acquired for a red-themed suit.
We initially tried a 5mW 25mA laser, but that isn’t bright enough. We tried a 300mW green laser and got a much better result, so that will be the basis for a green-themed lightsuit, and it even illuminates well enough to be visible in daylight and bright lighting! So the laser will be used with existing equipment for a green-themed lightsuit, but that leaves the red setup needing materials again.
Along with the red-specific equipment, the theme of the red suit will be that of a printed circuit board. 50 meters (not feet this time) of a thinner and more flexible 2mm cable have been ordered, and will be used alongside red plastic parts to give look of circuitry coming off a processor. Once they’re up and running, the booking page will be updated, and additional designs will be set up for the team.
More details will be shared as light suit construction continues!
Public Health & Policy Update
Eli has been busy at work getting his application ready for UCLA’s joint Master’s degree program in Public Policy and Public Health. With the applications due on December 1st, he has been continuing to study hard for the GRE. On the 7th, he attended an admissions workshop for the public policy program, where he learned about what the program entails and best practices for applications. On the 23rd, he participated in the diversity fair hosted by the public policy department to learn more about student life, more detail about the program, and feedback on his statement of purpose. There were panels run by current students, and were very informative in terms of what life in the public policy looks like, what the workload is, and how to generally be prepared for the program.
Keep it cool til next time!
